Contract: Search Architect

This is an engagement through Upwork’s Hybrid Workforce Solutions (HWS) Team. Our Hybrid Workforce Solutions Team is a global group of professionals that support Upwork’s business. Our HWS team members are located all over the world.

Work/Project Scope:

We're looking for an exceptional architect to work on our Search Recommendations Platform, which powers the matching and discoverability of our work marketplace. In this role, you will keep the Search Engineers focused on the proper architecture design and technology directions. At the same time, you will work with different cross-functional teams, such as Product, Machine Learning Engineer, and Backend Engineers etc, to create alignment and clarity.

• Defines the Target State architecture, which is used for Search and Recommendations. With a thorough understanding of the technological problems and business needs, create and develop prototypes and proofs of concept.
• Collaborate with a team of engineers to develop the design and architecture process. Present the architecture proposal with business stakeholders and IT leaders.
• Maintains long-term architecture sanity and defines team long-term technological components and tactics.
• Able to influence the roadmap of the Search and Discovery Products.

Must Haves (Required Skills):

• Relevant experience in the industry
• Experience in any of the Search Technologies like Solr, Lucene, Elastic Search, or others
• Demonstrated experience in architecting building complex and large-scale distributed systems
• Proven experience working with Java/Python/Scala or similar languages
• Exposure to Machine Learning and Deep Learning especially NLP and Recommender System
