The Quality Control and Assurance Analyst is primarily responsible for minimizing interruptions and improving workflow to allow Radiologists to focus on their primary clinical functions. These tasks include handling outgoing communications (such as notification of clinicians for critical, urgent, and unexpected findings) and incoming communications (phone call requests from referring physicians for preliminary findings and verbal consults). Further, the Analyst will monitor timely signing of reports, assist in monitoring turnaround times, assist in QA, and timely protocoling. Partnership with Outside facilities to facilitate and assist our radiologists with second opinion read order requests. Support our research team with research clarification orders, to help the success of our patients’ continued care. Finally, this role will partner with Imaging Informatics to ensure an effective IT infrastructure, including prompt reporting of application and network issues to IT and follow through until issues are resolved.

The Quality Control and Assurance Analyst in the Department of Radiology at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center plays a critical role in ensuring that radiology services consistently meet high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. This position is responsible for overseeing the performance, efficiency, and reliability of radiology processes and imaging equipment to support accurate diagnoses and protect patient safety. The analyst monitors compliance with internal policies as well as external regulatory requirements established by organizations such as the American College of Radiology (ACR), while also developing, implementing, and maintaining quality control and assurance protocols to ensure consistency in imaging quality and patient care. A portion of the role involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to identify trends, inefficiencies, discrepancies, or opportunities for improvement within radiology workflows, and translating that data into meaningful reports and performance metrics for leadership. The analyst supports continuous quality improvement initiatives by conducting audits, addressing workflow or imaging issues, and collaborating closely with radiologists, physicians, and staff to resolve concerns and promote best practices. In addition, the role serves as a liaison between the Department of Radiology and other internal departments, as well as external facilities, to facilitate the transfer of patient imaging and reports for internal reads and comparative analysis. A strong emphasis is placed on patient safety, including adherence to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure for both patients and staff, as well as monitoring patient feedback to identify areas for service improvement. This work is supported through the use of specialized radiology and reporting tools such as Nuance, Vision, IHIS, PowerScribe, PACS, medical imaging software, and data analysis platforms like Excel or Tableau. One of the key challenges of the role is balancing the demand for rapid diagnostic turnaround times with the need to maintain rigorous quality, safety, and compliance standards across all radiology services.

  • Assists with identifying and resolving operational concerns and ensures appropriate actions are taken;
  • Reviews, screens and triages correspondence, inquiries and concerns to appropriate individual to further investigate and resolve;
  • Provides technical and administrative guidance;
  • Researches, collects and compiles information as requested to develop complex departmental reports, to aid departmental leadership in strategic planning process, and for decision making purposes;
  • Serves as liaison for the Radiologist and various departments and/or colleges.

  • Independently provides support for outside reads ensuring images are uploaded appropriately and assigned to an appropriate radiologist for reading, and ensures report is available for requesting provider and/or patient;
  • Assists with training and support of workflow to radiologists, fellows, and residents with IHIS and imaging systems;
  • Promptly reports application and network issues to Imaging Informatics and/or medical center IT and follows through until the issue is resolved.

  • Monitors and notifies radiologist of outstanding studies exceeding service level agreements;
  • Sends reminders to radiologists with overdue unsigned reports;
  • Acts as a liaison for all wet reads or STAT requests, ensuring completion within guidelines of the department and medical center;
  • Reviews reading room work lists and assures all studies are read promptly;
  • Assists technologists with protocols and notifies radiologists when needed;
  • Assures all protocols are completed within departmental guidelines.
