Our Life Sciences Team is seeking a collaborative, experienced, and dynamic Leader of Underwriting to join our growing team.

This is a full time Hybrid or Remote, exempt role.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Head of Life Sciences will work collaboratively with BU leadership to manage the Life Sciences (LS) portfolio to ensure proper diversity and accumulation of risk; develop and execute a risk appetite and underwriting strategy to manage the underwriting and profitability of the portfolio; develop and manage LS underwriters who can successfully underwrite business and manage a geographic territory; and expand brand awareness and new business gravity through visibility in our agency distribution channels.

THIS IS A FULL-TIME, EXEMPT ROLE.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Deepen agency relationships and expand our underwriting brand in the marketplace.
  • Partner with Branch, Regional, and Zonal Leaders on distribution and strategic agency relationships.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the practice’s risk appetite and capabilities.
  • In conjunction with the CUO, develop, execute and maintain LS underwriting and exposure guides.
  • Collaborate with the CUO on product development of new LS policy forms / endorsements and rate rule development as needed –Includes Property, CGL, Umbrella and International endorsements, in addition to, Fusion (Products and E&O).
  • New business and renewal collaboration with LS underwriters:

◦ Qualification review on submissions or on more complex risks (e.g., appetite, pricing, terms, risk/reward, underwriting needs, etc.). ◦ Provide sales consult to help underwriters close deals (e.g., coverage comparisons, closing arguments).

  • Collaborate with other business units (Tech, Middle Market, Small Commercial, Healthcare) on LS exposures, pricing and policy structure.
  • Collaborate on special projects which advance the LS practice or enterprise.
  • Leads, directs and has full management accountability for LS team. Emphasis on talent management including acquisition, onboarding, development, and succession planning.
  • Strengthen LS underwriters’ knowledge on Property and WC underwriting and pricing.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

  • 7-10 years Life Sciences Property and Casualty (all lines) underwriting experience preferred.
  • Strong Product Liability Claims-Made underwriting and coverage knowledge.
  • Strong Errors & Omissions, Cyber, Privacy and Media and Content underwriting and coverage knowledge.
  • Leadership experience working with both individuals and a team.

The target hiring range for this role may vary based on geographic location and other factors, including merit or performance, demonstrated proficiency, skills for the role, education, travel requirements, and experience. Additional compensation may include an annual bonus (which could take the form of a general bonus, sales incentive, or short-term incentive), long-term incentive or spot recognition awards. The posted range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
