Engineering Manager, Traffic

Stripe

Job description

Apply Apply
The Traffic pillar within Stripe’s Foundations (infrastructure) org is responsible for making sure traffic makes it from the internet to our software, and doing it while being safe and invisible to other engineers at Stripe. We build the platform and infrastructure that sit at the intersection between our secure cardholder environment and the rest of Stripe.

Our work allows the rest of Stripe to move with urgency without comprising our users. We also work on making it easier and safer to work within the cardholder environment. Our software is one of the few in Stripe that receives every request to our API. At the same time we support numerous teams and products in growing the Stripe payment network.

We’re looking for engineering managers who are excited about leading a team to solve challenging distributed systems problems, as well as develop partnerships with other Stripe engineers to establish empathy and understand their use-cases.

You will:

  • Work with engineers and other leaders at Stripe to understand their use cases for Stripe’s secure credit card vault, infrastructure, and interfaces
  • Support the engineering team in achieving a high level of technical quality, reliability, and ease-of-use
  • Manage processes to help the team do its best work and engage effectively with the rest of Stripe
  • Recruit great engineers, in collaboration with Stripe’s recruiting team
  • Develop engineers on the team, helping them advance in their careers
  • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe’s engineering management team

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Managed teams that shipped and operated critical infrastructure, particularly in the security, compute, or storage domains
  • A methodical quantitative and analytical background
  • Worked with geographically distributed teams
  • Successfully recruited and built great teams
  • The ability to thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility
  • Clear and persuasive writing and in person communication
  • An excitement for collaborating with teammates across engineering to provide a wonderful user experience
