Who We Are

At Stance Health, we believe no one in chronic pain should have to suffer alone. We exist for the millions of people whose lives are consumed by chronic pain, people who feel unheard, dismissed, and stuck in a cycle of suffering. Chronic pain isn't just physical; it takes a profound toll on mental health, with rates of anxiety and depression five times higher among those who experience it.

We're here to change that. Stance Health connects people in pain with therapists who truly understand them, therapists who provide evidence-based, compassionate care that treats both the body and the mind. Our mission is to make this care accessible, empowering patients to reclaim their lives.

If you're passionate about helping people break free from the grip of chronic pain, we'd love to have you on our team.

About the Role

This is a part-time, independent contractor (1099) position, ideal for therapists looking for flexibility and a meaningful way to grow their practice while focusing on delivering care.

Stance Health is looking for fully licensed mental health therapists in Michigan to provide virtual therapy to individuals living with chronic pain. We're seeking clinicians who care deeply about an underserved population and want to meaningfully impact a growing company. You'll collaborate directly with company leadership to iterate and improve our care model.

What You'll Do

You'll conduct virtual therapy sessions with clients in chronic pain, delivering high-quality care using evidence-based interventions including CBT, ACT, EAET, PRT, and other modalities. You'll assist clients in implementing lifestyle modifications and self-care strategies while providing psychoeducation on the connection between chronic pain and mental health.

Qualifications

  • Clinically licensed to practice therapy in the state of Michigan (LMFT, LMSW, or LPC)

  • Experience working with clients in chronic pain, or a strong interest in developing expertise with this population

  • Familiarity with telehealth platforms and technology

  • Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Benefits

  • Streamlined training and ongoing clinical support: Stance helps therapists ramp quickly into evidence-based chronic pain care through structured onboarding, practical skill-building, and continued supervision. You do not need years of prior pain specialization to begin delivering strong care and growing confidence with this population. Stance therapists also have opportunities to deepen their expertise in specific chronic pain presentations such as pelvic pain, migraine, IBS, and more. This added specialization will strengthen your clinical skill set while helping you build a more consistent referral base among patient populations that are consistently in high demand for psychological treatment. Stance’s Clinical Advisor is Dr Afton Hassett, PsyD, a nationally recognized pain psychologist at the University of Michigan. She is an Associate Professor at U-M and a principal investigator within and the Director of its Chronic Pain & Fatigue Research Center (one of the largest and most well funded in the world), helping inform the clinical rigor behind our approach

  • Administrative support: Focus on what you do best. We handle all operational elements, including client matching, contracting, credentialing, and billing.

  • Flexible schedule: Set your own hours and enjoy 100% remote work, no caseload or availability minimums required.

  • Grow your practice: New clients find you through our platform. No marketing required.

  • Hassle-free credentialing: Get paneled with major insurers at no cost to you.
