We are launching our EV (electric vehicle) leasing business in Germany and need a Software Engineer (Full Stack) to help build it from the ground up.
We have rapidly scaled our proposition in the UK to over 30k vehicles on fleet and £300m ARR in just a few years. What’s more, we’re growing faster than ever.
Our mission is to rapidly accelerate the EV transition whilst providing the best possible service to our customers.
Our ambition is to build the best EV platform in Germany as rapidly as possible. You may know our sister company, Octopus Energy, who are already one of the fastest growing green energy providers in Germany with over 1m customers.
You'll be one of two engineers, working directly with the country General Manager to rapidly build and validate our product for the German market.
This role is perfect for a full-stack developer who is excited by the challenge of quickly shipping minimum viable solutions and directly enabling business growth.

What you'll do...

  • Build Fast, Deliver Impact.
  • This role requires a candidate who prioritizes business impact and rapid validation over technical perfection.
  • Proactive, self-starter who identifies problems and proposes technical solutions without needing constant direction. Happy working relatively independently within a small, resource-constrained team.
  • Must be comfortable that most tooling and code developed will be long-term temporary, built to validate the market but replaced on a 1-2 year horizon if we are successful. As such they must be comfortable with deciding the right balance of security and maintainability vs insights and speed.
  • Able to translate high-level business goals into prioritized, deliverable technical tasks.
  • Bias for shipping minimum viable solutions rapidly.
  • Comfortable with the ambiguity that comes from entry into a new market.
  • Must be comfortable working in a paired environment while adhering to technical guidelines provided remotely by the UK team.

What you'll need...

  • Native/C2 German and Professional English fluency.
  • Strong experience with Typescript, React, Node.js, SQL/noSQL.
  • Proven delivery of modern, responsive, and reusable frontends; fast, secure, scalable backends and APIs; and integrating with 3rd party services.
  • Experience with deploying and maintaining own systems on cloud hosting providers
  • Strong understanding of modern development workflows, including Git, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, unit testing, and agile development cycles, using GenAI or low-code tooling where appropriate.

What you'll be doing

  • Developing modern, responsive, and reusable frontends with React and TypeScript.
  • Building fast, secure, and scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, integrating with SQL and noSQL databases and 3rd party APIs.
  • Deploying and maintaining your own systems on cloud hosting providers.
  • Engaging in rapid prototyping, unit testing, and agile development cycles, using GenAI tooling where appropriate to accelerate delivery.
  • Working in a paired environment as the senior engineer, while adhering to technical guidelines provided remotely by our UK team.
