We are looking for a mid-level or senior-level creative writer with a mastery of brand voice, writing styles, and client leadership. We’re the brand identity house of the South. Our job is to help challenger brands take their identity to the next level by uncovering what makes them radically relevant, and leveraging their unique position to create a compelling brand identity.  

Our team has three main practices: brand strategy, verbal identity, and visual identity all in service of our focused expertise in launching and refreshing brand identities of all sizes. This role will lead the writing efforts on select projects and closely collaborate with other writers, strategists, designers, and project managers. This role is responsible for direct contribution to our verbal work for a wide range of clients and will report directly to our Brand Strategy Director. We believe in close collaboration with our clients, and this role will work directly with founders, CMOs and CEOs to help lead them through our brand voice and verbal identity process.

Where We Work

This full-time opportunity can be fully remote, or a hybrid role based in Atlanta, and may include some client travel (when safe and appropriate to do so) as well as occasional in-person Matchstic team meetings. 

You Should Apply If You Have:  

  • A knack for infusing wit, personality, and emotion into a brand.

  • A deep understanding of a small creative agency environment.

  • The ability to manage multiple projects with a wide variety of client types

  • A love for people and know how to invite, take and provide criticism.

  • Demonstrated success navigating complex brand messaging problems with a solid POV on how brands should communicate.

  • Examples of brand-level messaging work that includes brand voice definitions, example headlines, brand introductory statements, and short paragraphs (long form writing is not applicable).

  • Portfolio of successful corporate rebrand projects from research to launch.

  • Near mastery of the English language.

  • Demonstrated examples of pushing messaging boundaries for a client

  • An ability to do more listening than talking; translating client problems into clear goals.

  • A bias for collaboration and ability to work closely with others.

  • A real comfort communicating and defending your work client sessions.

  • A desire to grow and pursue leadership skills and career growth.

  • A positive, proactive attitude, looking for some level of autonomy and influence.

  • A strategic mindset, and keen understanding of the linkage between brand strategy and messaging, ultimately to enable copy that is grounded in research and strategic insights.

  • Desire to bring your view point to the Matchstic verbal identity process.

Additionally, If You Have Any Experience With the Following We’d Love to Hear About It:

  • Experience with brand and product naming

  • Experience with writing brand positioning statements, attributes, or audience personas

  • Experience facilitating client facing workshops or interviews

  • Experience supporting qualitative or quantitative research projects

On Any One Day, You Might: 

  • Develop key brand messaging elements such as brand tone and voice, core message, sample headlines, and other short-form elements

  • Collaborate with strategists to impact brand personality attributes and positioning

  • Collaborate with designers to develop a conceptually rich, cohesive brand identity where visuals and verbals elevate one another

  • Present work to clients and participate in client calls to build a solid working relationship

  • Conduct competitive audits, brand reviews, voice analysis

  • Guide clients through decision making during the messaging phase

  • Build and present slides in Keynote

  • Craft copy for brand guideline documents

  • Contribute occasionally to other areas such as naming and brand application writing (websites, print pieces, etc.)

  • Continually seek new ways to better Matchstic’s writing practice and hone your craft
