Job Description

Position is remote from our office in Allentown, PA, this is not a remote from home position.

Summary The virtual nurse provides professional nursing care via remote monitoring modalities at a remote monitoring location to support clinicians and patients. Participates as a member of the collaborative team to provide virtual encounters for a variety of clinical conditions. The virtual nurse encounter promotes the support of clinical staff in activities that do not require direct physical contact (surveillance and rounding, admission, discharge, education, guidance in policy or practice). The Virtual Nurse also supports colleagues through coaching and mentoring. Demonstrates effective communication skills that support a team approach for optimal patient care. The Virtual Nurse position maintains a schedule that includes direct patient care shifts and virtual nursing care shifts.

Job Duties
  • Collaborates with the interprofessional team utilizing technology to optimize alternative modes of care delivery.
  • Actively participates in patient care activities that do not require direct physical contact to support the clinicians (admission, discharge, patient education, patient teaching, etc.)
  • Evaluates and interprets patient assessment data for designated patients. Recognizes the need for and initiates collaboration/communication with providers/interdisciplinary team members and takes action to proactively resolve patients' needs.
  • Synthesizes available data, information, and knowledge relevant to the situation to make decisions which optimize patient outcomes based on ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics.
  • Documents findings and actions in the electronic medical record.
  • Provides ongoing communication with the originating site regarding the virtual encounter.
  • Mentors, coaches and resources clinicians to successfully perform technical skills and procedures based upon clinical specialty and unit practice.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities and shares with colleagues.
  • Demonstrates commitment to quality and safety, in accordance with established policies and procedures, utilizing evidence-based practice.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Specialized Diploma Graduate of accredited Nursing program.
  • 3 years Minimum, acute care or critical care experience and
  • Currently, clinically active in a clinical care area and
  • 3 years Recent experience in an emergency department to include triage experience of both pediatric and adult patients for ED virtual positions.
  • Successful completion of additional orientation programs related to specialty.
  • Basic proficiency in medication administration examination within the first six weeks.
  • Successful completion of cardiac arrhythmia interpretation course by completion of orientation or passing score on challenge exam for cardiac arrhythmia interpretation course.
  • Successful completion of LVHN emergency care curriculum or previous emergency nursing experience for ED Virtual positions.
  • Successful ESI training for ED Virtual positions.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association Upon Hire
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - American Heart Association
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association
  • RN - Licensed Registered Nurse_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing
  • 5 years Acute care, ED or critical care experience and
  • Preceptor experience of nursing students, graduate nurses and newly hired nursesand
  • Charge nurse experience
  • Completion of a critical care course or test score of >/=80% on a critical care specialty assessment for ICU Virtual positions
  • CMSRN - Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board within 2 Years or
  • PCCN - Adult Progressive Care Certified Nurse - American Association of Critical-Care Nurses within 2 Years or
  • CPEN - Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse - PNCB - Pediatric Nursing Certification Board within 2 Years

Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
