This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Unix System Engineer in the United States.
This role offers the opportunity to manage, maintain, and optimize a large-scale Unix/Linux infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments. The Unix System Engineer will ensure the security, reliability, and performance of enterprise systems while supporting critical operations and customer-facing services. You will work on automation, vulnerability mitigation, patching, and monitoring, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to implement best practices and streamline workflows. The role provides exposure to cloud platforms like AWS, enterprise monitoring systems, and a variety of scripting languages, within a dynamic and mission-driven environment. Flexibility, technical problem-solving, and operational excellence are key aspects of this position.
Accountabilities
- Support and maintain over 600 Unix/Linux servers across multiple on-premises and cloud environments.
- Install, configure, patch, and optimize RHEL/CentOS systems on physical and virtual platforms.
- Develop, debug, and maintain scripts using shell, Perl, Python, and related languages to automate tasks and workflows.
- Monitor systems using enterprise monitoring tools and Splunk, responding to incidents and performing root cause analysis.
- Perform vulnerability mitigation, OS hardening, and implement security best practices across infrastructure.
- Manage file systems, logical volumes, and storage solutions including NFS and CIFS.
- Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation for systems, processes, and support activities.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support as needed, ensuring high availability of critical systems.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting RHEL/CentOS systems.
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA6/7/8).
- Intermediate experience with Satellite Server and Ansible Tower.
- Proven experience with Linux hosting in AWS and cloud environments.
- Proficiency in vulnerability mitigation, OS hardening, and enterprise monitoring systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Time management and organizational aptitude.
- Preferred: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE6/7/8), Terraform, VMware administration, Oracle Linux experience, NOC/SOC exposure, and government contract experience.
