This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Risk Platform) in the United States.
This role is a high-impact backend engineering position within a fast-paced, risk-focused environment. You will design and build scalable systems that detect and prevent financial fraud, protect users, and maintain platform integrity. The position requires ownership of complex, high-stakes projects from architecture to production, with hands-on coding, mentoring, and leadership responsibilities. You will influence the technical direction of the risk platform, improve system reliability and performance, and implement solutions that directly impact millions of users and high-volume transactions. Accountabilities:
- Lead technical design, development, and deployment of backend systems for risk detection and mitigation.
- Author, review, and approve technical design documents for complex projects.
- Drive architecture and implementation decisions for scalable, distributed systems.
- Manage projects end-to-end, from ambiguous requirements to production deployment.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Oversee incident response, bug triaging, and performance improvements.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure technical solutions meet business goals and maintain high-quality user experience.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong track record of delivering complex backend systems.
- Expertise in at least one backend programming language such as Go, Java, or Python.
- Proven experience designing and scaling distributed systems in production.
- Deep understanding of system design, architecture patterns, trade-offs, and reliability.
- Experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineers.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguous requirements.
- Familiarity with incident response processes and post-mortems.
- Preferred: experience with risk, fraud detection, or financial systems; knowledge of machine learning in production; real-time event processing (Kafka, Flink); understanding of payment systems and associated fraud patterns.
