This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Manager, Database Engineering in the United States.
In this role, you will lead a high-performing database engineering team responsible for the reliability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical database systems. You will define the long-term vision for database engineering while ensuring operational excellence in day-to-day activities. Partnering with product, infrastructure, and data teams, you will set standards for database design, drive automation, and solve complex scaling challenges. This position offers the opportunity to shape database strategy, mentor engineers, and enable developers across the organization to work more effectively with data in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Accountabilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of database engineers, fostering technical excellence and collaboration.
- Define and execute the roadmap for database infrastructure to support growth and scalability.
- Partner with application and data engineering teams to establish standards for database design, schema governance, and query optimization.
- Drive initiatives to improve database performance, availability, and security across production and non-production environments.
- Champion automation and tooling to reduce operational overhead and enhance developer self-service.
- Provide strategic guidance to engineering leadership on database architecture, scaling, and cost efficiency.
- Monitor database health and performance metrics, identifying areas for optimization and proactive intervention.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in database engineering or DBA roles, with at least 3 years of people management experience.
- Deep expertise in Postgres, including extensions, replication, and performance tuning.
- Experience designing and supporting high-volume OLTP systems.
- Strong knowledge of AWS services (RDS, EC2, IAM, VPC, S3) and infrastructure automation.
- Proficiency with Python or another scripting language for database automation and tooling.
- Strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and operations teams.
- Preferred: experience with Clickhouse, distributed databases, cloud scalability solutions, or financial services/fintech environments.
