This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Database Engineer in Alabama (USA).
This role is designed for an experienced database professional responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex database systems that support critical operations. You will work closely with clients and internal teams to translate business requirements into scalable, efficient, and secure database solutions. The position involves developing logical and physical data models, ensuring data integrity, optimizing query performance, and implementing automation for database tasks. You will provide technical guidance to junior engineers, enforce best practices, and support cloud-based database solutions. Operating in a fast-paced, remote environment, this role combines deep technical expertise with collaboration and problem-solving to deliver high-quality, reliable data systems.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain database management systems, ensuring standards, quality, and security policies are met.
- Translate business requirements into logical and physical database models, including schemas, tables, and reports.
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and capacity planning.
- Implement and maintain ETL processes and data warehousing solutions.
- Automate database management tasks using scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
- Support cloud-based databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL) and manage version control systems like Git.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Ensure backup, recovery, and data governance standards are adhered to.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 8 years working with complex database systems and data warehousing solutions.
- At least 5 years of experience in SQL development and database management.
- Proficiency with DBMS such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, stored procedures, and triggers.
- Knowledge of ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, or Talend.
- Familiarity with cloud database solutions (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) and DevOps environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and provide mentorship to team members.
- U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for a Public Trust (MBI) security clearance required.
- Preferred: experience with EDI medical claims, Agile methodologies, and advanced database certifications.
