Chinese Translator

The position of translator requires the translation of local (Mandarin) language content into English. The translator must provide a consistently high standard of translation quality and the work must be completed within defined time-frames. The translator must write sentences that maintain or duplicate the structure and style of the original meaning while keeping the ideas and facts of the original meaning accurate. The translator should not specialize in certain subjects – but must be able to translate across all general subjects.

• Please be aware that this is a PART-TIME, FIXED-TERM CONTRACT
• Reading through original material and rewriting it in target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained
• Ensures high quality and relevancy of translations - Translation is clear, concise, and free of typographical errors.
• Timely submissions of translations - Translations are submitted on time, as scheduled
• Clearly communicates and escalates work issues that arise.

Requirements

• Education: Tertiary Qualifications preferred but not essential.
• Technical Skills: Proven capability in hands on problem-solving, with ability to generate ideas, identify the root causes of problems and generate good solutions.
• Industry Experience: Minimum 2 years in translating. Experience delivering to strict deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Personal Qualities: Attention to detail combined with the ability to work quickly to meet deadlines. Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure. Collaborative and willing to share knowledge. Exceptionally well presented and professionalism. Enthusiastic approach – “can-do” positive attitude
• Technology Skills: Computer literacy - MS Word and Excel, Databases. Able to adapt quickly to new technology.
• Communication & Language: Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization. Excellent writing skills and command of grammar
