Hex is changing the way people work with data. Our platform makes analytics workflows more powerful, collaborative, and sharable. Hex solves key pain points with today's data and analytics tooling, and is loved by thousands of users all over the world for the beautiful UI, new superpowers, and boundless flexibility.
We are a tight-knit crew of engineers, designers, and data aficionados. Our roadmap is full of big ideas and little details, and we would love your help bringing them to life.
Hex has raised over $70m from great VCs and angels, giving us many years of runway and the ability to pay competitive salaries, offer great benefits, and provide meaningful equity.
About the role
Platform is one of three EPD (Eng/Product/Design) teams at Hex and, as the name might imply, is focused on foundational capabilities that power the rest of the product.
While Hex is known for its incredible UX, under the hood we have a cutting-edge architecture that allows us to power advanced data workloads, integrate with other systems, and automatically scale with user need. These platform capabilities have a massive impact on every part of Hex, from authentication to compute.
We’re still just at the tip of the iceberg, however, and executing on our ambitious roadmap is critical to our next phase.
This is where you come in! As Platform Product Manager, you will own the vision and execution on the development of our platform.
You will partner with the CEO and CTO to define and evolve our platform strategy, tying long-term company goals to immediate development areas. You will work with Engineering, Design, and GTM partners to scope and deliver critical features and infrastructure. You will ruthlessly prioritize, unblock your team, and coordinate seamlessly. You will define an ambitious vision, but break it down into small chunks that let us ship and get there fast.
Your work will focus on several key areas:
Compute environments - drive the roadmap for providing flexible, powerful compute to our users across Python, SQL, R, and no-code.
Integrations - work with our partners at Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, and beyond to design and deliver seamless end-to-end user experiences.
Infrastructure - driving how we develop, deliver, and manage Hex deployments, whether our Hex Cloud SaaS or single-tenant offerings.
Security - partnering with our Security Engineering team to prioritize key investments, and ensure our customers data is handled with extreme care.
Enterprise enablement - delivering features that allow us to work with ever-more sophisticated organizations, including authentication, governance, and more
This is a highly technical PM role - you should have significant exposure to the areas above, and likely come from a technical product or engineering background.
To succeed, you should have a demonstrated track record on several fronts:
Significant experience in and around technical data systems. You should know what a kernel is, understand package management (as much as one can, anyway), and have at least a baseline awareness of Spark, Arrow, and other foundational data technologies.
Knowledge of modern software and cloud infrastructure. You should have a baseline understanding of Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, and other similar technologies.
Experience working with fast moving Engineering and Product teams.
Exposure to B2B enterprise SaaS, including a working knowledge of common enterprise needs, and why security is the most important job.
Strong synthesis skills, including communicating with users and customers and distilling real needs and requirements from raw data
Strong partnership with other functions, including Sales, Marketing, and Customer teams, and an understanding that your work is critical to our growth.
As with any other hires at Hex, you should also have:
Dedication to being an incredible teammate, who gives feedback, support, and input when needed.
A strong bias toward action and an eye for operating minimalist engineering processes
An interest in changing the way people do data science and analytics.
A growth mindset and curiosity that drive you to learn above all else.
Detail-orientation, and a habit of reading things all the way to the end.
