The Principal Trainer – EMR is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering effective
training programs for users of the various Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems the Company
utilizes. This role involves designing course materials, conducting classroom training, developing elearning content, updating and maintaining content, and supporting go-live activities to ensure
users are well-equipped to perform their roles within the Epic system. The Principal Trainer will
collaborate with project leaders, application analysts, and department leads to ensure training
aligns with operational workflows and supports optimal utilization of the Epic system.

Qualifications
Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree accepted

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • None

Work Experience Required:

  • 3+ years of Epic training experience
  • 1+ years of experience as a credentialed trainer for Epic

Preferred Qualifications, Education, Licenses, Certifications, Experience, etc.:

  • Preferred Certifications – Epic certification in either Ambulatory, Radiance or Cadence Prelude
  • Preferred Experience – 1+ years of content creation
  • Preferred Experience – Cerner, Athena and/or eClinicalWorks

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of Epic applications and workflows, especially in clinical and operational modules such as registration, scheduling, documentation, and revenue cycle.
  • Strong grasp of healthcare operations and how they intersect with EMR workflows.
  • Expertise in adult learning principles, instructional design, and change management strategies to support clinical adoption.
  • Advanced instructional and facilitation skills for both in-person and virtual training formats.
  • Proficiency in developing diverse training materials, including eLearning modules, presentations, and job aids.
  • Skilled in Epic training tools and environments (e.g., Hyperspace, UserWeb, Training Wheels).
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Effective organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives.
  • Ability to lead enterprise-wide training initiatives across markets and departments, ensuring consistency and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Ability to collaborate with operational leaders, analysts, and application teams to design and deliver impactful training solutions.
  • Ability to assess training effectiveness and continuously improve based on performance metrics and user feedback.
  • Ability to mentor and support Credentialed Trainers and end users, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.
  • This role involves interaction and collaboration with other departments and requires excellent judgment and interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Training Program Strategy & Development

  • Design, develop and lead continuous improvement processes for role-based training curricula for various Epic applications.
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to create scalable training solutions, update training materials, including lesson plans, e-learning modules, and quick reference guides for various Epic applications and Epic related systems/processes such as OnePacs and Clockwise.
  • Evaluate and incorporate feedback to continuously improve training content and delivery methods for various Epic applications and Epic related systems/processes such as Mend and Zotec.

Trainer Credentialing & Evaluation

  • Lead the credentialing process for prospective trainers, including evaluation, feedback, and final certification decisions.
  • Exercise independent judgment to determine trainer readiness and certification eligibility based on established criteria and performance standards, providing clear, evidence-based recommendations to senior leadership regarding trainer certification outcomes.
  • Document and communicate certification decisions, including rationale for approval or denial, in a professional and transparent manner.
  • Mentor and coach credentialed trainers to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with company training standards.

Training Delivery

  • Conduct classroom and virtual training sessions for new users and provide ongoing education for existing users on various Epic applications and Epic related systems/processes such as Clockwise and GoReg. Trainees include, but are not limited to, potential Certified Trainers, other Principal Trainers, Clinical Staff, Providers, Market Leaders, and Company Team Members.
  • Serve as the primary instructor for complex, high-impact training sessions for various Epic applications and Epic related systems/processes such as GoReg and Zotech
  • Adapt training style for various Epic applications and Epic related systems to meet the diverse learning needs of end users.

Go-Live Support and Optimization

  • Provide on-site support during system go-lives, ensuring smooth transitions for end users .Examples of items trained are Epic, GoReg, Zotec, Zendesk, Abbott, and OnePacs. The trainees can include, but are not limited to, potential Certified Trainers, other Principal Trainers, Clinical Staff, Providers, Market Leaders, and Company Team Members.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and provide targeted training interventions for postimplementation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess and implement system optimizations based on user feedback and operational needs.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Document training sessions and user progress for various Epic applications, maintaining records in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Develop and distribute reports on effectiveness, participation, and feedback of training for various Epic applications and Epic related systems.
  • Assist with tracking and documenting ongoing Epic updates and release notes to keep related training materials current.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with Epic application analysts, project managers, and other trainers to ensure alignment between system functionality and operational workflows. Systems include Epic, GoReg, Zotec, OnePacs and Mend.
  • Engage with department leaders to understand specific needs and customize training for various Epic applications and Epic related systems/processes to support their teams’ workflows.
  • Act as a liaison between IT and operational departments to foster effective communication and understanding for Epic and Epic related systems/processes.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in Epic certification or re-certification as needed and stay current with Epic updates.
  • Identify areas for improvement in delivering training and user support for various Epic applications and Epic related systems/processes, recommending innovative solutions.
  • Conduct and analyze needs assessments to identify and address skill gaps among end usersfor various Epic applications and Epic related systems/processes.

EMR Specific Functions

  • Design, develop, and deliver Epic training programs tailored to clinical and operational workflows (e.g., registration, scheduling, documentation, revenue cycle).
  • Create and maintain diverse training materials—including eLearning modules, presentations, and job aids—using Epic tools and adult learning principles.
  • Configure and maintain Epic training environments (e.g., Hyperspace, Training Wheels) in coordination with application teams to reflect current build and workflows.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training for various Epic applications and Epic related systems/processes using performance metrics, user feedback, and adoption data to continuously refine strategies and materials that enhance learning outcomes and system utilization.

Physical Requirements

  • Office Environment: Tasks may be conducted within a climate-controlled office setting.
  • Physical Activity: The role may require the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, supplies, and equipment (up to 25 lbs.) Duties typically involve a combination of sitting, standing, and walking, with frequent changes in position.
  • Travel: Travel may be required, including travel between company locations and out-of town destinations, up to 50% or more depending on training needs.
  • Safety Equipment: May require the use of safety equipment for infection prevention.
