About the Role:

We’re looking to bring on an experienced Sales Manager to lead our Small to Medium sized business segment (SMB)  to join our dynamic and rapidly growing Betterment for Business (B4B) Team. Reporting to our Head of Sales, you will oversee our current team of SMB Account Executives and SDRs, focused on employers with 51-500 employees converting their 401(k) plans to Betterment. Our SMB sales team has built tremendous momentum over the last year, and is focused on selling the innovation we are bringing to market. We are seeking someone goal-oriented, who understands how to set up and motivate the team for long term success, drawing on your passion for financial wellness. In this role, you will drive sales through excellent forecasting, collaborating across the business, and supporting, training, and mentoring our sales team. It will be critical that you are able to iterate quickly based on feedback and prioritize between multiple different stakeholders.  

The retirement space is far from stagnant and Betterment is a fast-paced environment. We’re looking for a candidate who is excited by the evolution of retirement benefits in the macro environment and can bring that excitement to our clients as we redefine employer benefits.

This role is remote eligible. Colorado has an annual starting salary of $72,000, variable compensation, a competitive equity package, health, dental and vision benefits, and a 401(k) offering. The actual pay may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience.

A Day in the Life:

  • Mentor and manage a team Account Executives and SDRs that care deeply about redefining Employer Benefits

  • Assist with ongoing growth and development; recruiting, hiring, training, and mentoring of team members

  • Help the team strategize with cross-functional teams to drive success and maximize resource allocation

  • Deeply understand B4B’s value proposition and solution offerings to effectively articulate benefits at all levels of prospective customer organizations

  • Provide detailed analysis and reporting on the team’s performance as well as accurate forecasts to sales leadership based on individual performance and historical trends

  • Achieve key performance metrics and goals

  • Evaluate and analyze team performance on metrics that matter and work closely with management to drive process improvements and enhance operational efficiencies

  • Consistently conduct pipeline and deal reviews to help the team with presentations, negotiations, and deal strategy

What We’re Looking For:

  • Relevant leadership experience managing Account Executive and/or Sales Development Reps, ideally with expertise in outbound sales and selling a product with heavy legal/internal review

  • Solid understanding of SaaS applications and collaboration technology, Salesforce, and outreach

  • Consistent track record of achieving personal and team goals and a passion for retirement and financial wellness

  • An effective verbal and written communicator who can be persuasive and determined

  • Innovator who is excited to learn and try new things

  • Excellent problem-solving, structuring, analyzing, and strategy skills with ability to translate analysis into actionable plans

What Happens Next?

We expect to take a few weeks to review all applications. If we would like to spend more time with you, you will hear from us to arrange next steps. You can expect 3-4 sets of conversations, all remote, with your future colleagues in the weeks following your application.

Throughout the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our interview questions will be behavioral, aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. We may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, depending on the role, as we aim to collect a robust set of data points throughout the interview process.

On average, it takes us around 2-3 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision.
