Director, Orthotics

The Director of Orthotics is primarily responsible for directing the overall functions of Orthotic Services; coordinate and supervise operations of the department; administer services and orthotic devices as prescribed by a referring physician; and maintain performance improvement activities within the department. Assure competency of all staff members; assist in formulating budget, evaluates department performance versus budget and takes appropriate action to remain within budget guidelines. Develop and implement system of reviewing department charges, ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Maintain efficient and effective department operations while requiring compliance with all accreditation, state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols.

Job Duties:

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
  • Responsible for direction of the Orthotics Services department and staff
  • Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effect and recommend changes to physician if necessary
  • Formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning
  • Provide education to staff on performance improvement
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of all Orthotics services
  • Serve as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers
  • Ongoing, effective communication with staff and leadership team
  • Ensure effective maintenance of records pertinent to personnel and operation of the department
  • Prepare reports regarding Orthotics services, i.e., utilization, performance improvement, service data, outcome data, productivity, including long term capital budget and short-term operation budget
  • Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
  • Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments
  • Ability to plan and organize orientation and in-service training for department staff members and participate in guidance and educational programs
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising leadership and Compliance on needed actions

Management/Supervision:

  • Responsible for selection and hiring of qualified staff, ensuring an effective on-boarding, and providing comprehensive training and regular feedback
  • Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards

Requirements

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college
  • Five (5) years Manager-level experience in related position, preferably in the healthcare, physical therapy or Orthotics industry is required.
  • Two (2) years Healthcare experience preferably in a sales environment preferred.
  • Experience with liaison, discharge planning or referral coordinator experience is preferred.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license in the state of residence
