Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied and separated children who are forcibly displaced from their countries of origin. Launched in 2008, KIND champions a world in which every child’s rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety. 
 
Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.

Position Summary

KIND seeks a highly organized, innovative, and strategic Interim Director, Advocacy Campaign to conceptualize and implement key aspects of a campaign designed to re-imagine the framework for children’s immigration issues. This position is located within the Policy and Advocacy Department and reports to the Vice President Policy & Advocacy. The Interim Director Advocacy Campaign will guide and implement the strategic vision of the campaign, including oversight of a panel of experts and influencers who serve as the primary public face of the campaign. 

This is a remote position based from any location in the U.S.

Essential Functions

    • Conceptualizes and implements an impactful advocacy campaign to protect the rights of unaccompanied children and expand the universe of stakeholders committed to that work, including oversight of campaign objectives and organizational structure, identification of key supporters and audiences, recruitment of and management of high-level experts and influencers who lend their support to the campaign’s objectives.
    • Oversight of day-to-day campaign operations and finances. 
    • Plans and executes high-level site visits and meetings, establishing clear trip objectives, overseeing all logistics, and determining necessary post-trip follow-up. 
    • Engages, as needed, in outreach to advocacy partners to coordinate events.
    • Works closely with the communications team to ensure policy products are developed, timely produced, and appropriate to the needs of the panel and campaign goals.
    • Identifies opportunities and projects that will enhance the reach of the campaign, organizing and serving as an active member of the core campaign planning team.
    • Works closely with the communications team to coordinate the release of materials, social media actions, and ongoing efforts to build support and awareness of campaign principles.
    • Leads campaign related monitoring and evaluation work to ensure the initiative maintains momentum, successfully reaches targeted audiences, and can shift according to real-time developments impacting messaging, opportunities, and timelines. 
    • Supervises campaign coordinator responsible for administrative and logistical functions.

Qualifications and Requirements

    • Undergraduate degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience conceptualizing and managing national non-partisan campaigns that include high-level validators, congressional engagement, and commission management.
    • Familiarity with project management techniques and principles.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites (such as Teams, Excel, etc.). 
    • Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
    • Excellent organizational skills with ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate as appropriate.
    • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and communication styles.

$102,367.83 - $127,959.79 a year
