The Billing & Payments team creates and maintains the foundation of our SaaS business to fuel the growth and adoption of 1Password worldwide. We have experienced tremendous growth but see an even brighter future ahead of us as we carve a deeper path into the B2B space. We’re looking for someone that can help us take our systems that process millions of transactions to the next level as we scale.

In this critical role, you'll be instrumental in shaping the architecture and evolution of our Billing & Payments system within 1Password. Your leadership will directly influence our strategic direction, maintaining alignment with our overarching business goals while pioneering advanced technologies and best practices in coding, testing, and deployment.

This role is not just about technical expertise; it's about collaboration, creativity, and the willingness to learn and grow together. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders from across the company, our third-party partners and multiple payment providers, while proactively providing technical and project mentorship to the team.

This is a Remote opportunity within Canada and the United States.

What we're looking for:

    • Deep expertise in system architecture, software development, and product management. A critical eye for detail, passion for quality standards, and sound instincts on tradeoffs.
    • Experience building and scaling billing and payments systems.
    • Strong track record of leading complex engineering projects that impact many dependent teams. Exemplary communication and project management skills. Strong familiarity with creating and reviewing proposals through RFD’s.
    • Comfort and desire to influence technical strategy at various levels within the organization.
    • Proven track record as an effective mentor and leader of other developers. Ability to lead through influence rather than authority. Exhibits empathy and understanding, inspiring people through collaboration and shared success. Able to deliver appropriate and effective feedback to teammates. Enjoy motivating, guiding and inspiring teams.
    • Able to build strong relationships with cross-functional partners throughout the company. Know how to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • A profound respect for user privacy and information security.

    • On the technical side...
    • Experience working in Go.
    • A strong understanding of how servers and clients interact, API design, multi-service architecture, efficient database design, and experience scaling a system into millions of users and terabytes of data.
    • Frontend experience with React/Typescript.
    • Experience with Stripe.

What you can expect:

    • As a technical leader, you will help chart the path to our technical future as we scale the product to meet the demand and scale of our growing business.
    • Shape the technical direction and strategy of projects, ensuring alignment with broader business goals. Influence product roadmaps and contribute to long-term planning.
    • Tackle complex technical problems and anticipate potential roadblocks, offering creative and efficient solutions. Encourage a proactive approach to problem-solving within the team.
    • Develop a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the team. Mentor engineers at different stages of their careers, fostering skill development and career growth.
    • Inspire engineering efforts, ideating and implementing new solutions. Drive the adoption of best practices in coding, testing, and deployment. Lead architecture direction in Go with robust unit and integration testing structure.
    • Lift others by example in collaborative work with cross-functional stakeholders. Ensure efficient and effective communication between team members and stakeholders. Facilitate meetings and decision-making processes.
    • Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance that have particular impact across your team. Identify areas where we can improve not just our code but our development process and/or tools.
    • Lead in a collaborative group where the team succeeds as a whole.
